BIOGRAPHY OF STANLEY V. BUKY, ESQ.

"Of-Counsel" to Sokoloff & Weinstein, P.A.

Mr. Buky was born on June 2, 1954 in Long Island, New York.  He was reared in Atlanta, Georgia and did his undergraduate studies at University of Florida and graduated from Georgia State University in 1977 with magna cum laude honors.  He graduated from the University of Florida College of Law in 1980.  He was awarded the Dean's "Book Award" for excellence in legal research and writing.

Upon graduation from law school, Mr. Buky began his legal career with one of the largest and oldest insurance defense firms in Miami, Florida.  He "cut his teeth" in the litigation arena assisting senior partners in large and complex trials.  In addition, he was given the opportunity to independently try scores of jury trials involving automobile accidents, slip and falls, and negligent security cases involving assault and batteries on commercial properties.

As his litigation skills and experience progressed, he handled more complex cases involving toxic waste sites, aviation, maritime, and commercial construction cases.  Mr. Buky co-counseled one of the first asbestos cases which was tried to a jury.  His practice also involved various insurance coverage disputes as well as dozens of arbitrations before the American Arbitration Association and numerous mediations.

In 1986, Mr. Buky joined a small insurance defense firm which, during the course of his tenure, grew from nine to over thirty-five lawyers.  While there, he spearheaded the opening of a branch office in West Palm Beach, Florida and was its managing partner.  Through the groundwork laid by Mr. Buky and his leadership, that office continues to be a successful office for that firm.

After having been intimately involved with representing insurance companies and big businesses and having seen their dealings firsthand for over seventeen years, Mr. Buky sought more personal satisfaction in the practice of law.  In 1997, Mr. Buky opened his own law firm representing people who have been wrongfully injured at the hands of negligent drivers, airlines, cruise lines, big business, physicians, hospitals, nursing homes, careless manufacturers of defective products, pharmaceuticals and dietary supplements.

Mr. Buky continues his litigation and trial practice representing injured people and their families.  He passionately believes that there is no such thing as an ordinary person, and his small practice enables him to devote personal time and attention to each and every client and to deal with their particular issues and circumstances.  Mr. Buky's past work for insurance companies and big businesses, coupled with his involvement with various types of cases, lends a unique background and perspective in his practice representing injured plaintiffs.

Mr. Buky is AV rated by Martindale-Hubbell.  He is an active member of the Palm Beach County Trial Lawyers Association and is a member of the Academy of Florida Trial Lawyers.  He recently completed study and training to become a Certified Circuit Court Civil Mediator.  This training has provided additional insight into the mediation process which in the past decade has become an integral part of the overall litigation process.  He is available to litigate and try cases in all courts of the State of Florida including cases in Federal District Court.
